Collecting Stories, Not Just Miles
Updated: Jul 15
When people ask me why I travel, they usually expect an answer about beaches, landmarks, or checking destinations off a bucket list.
The truth is, I travel because every trip has a story waiting to be discovered.
Some stories begin with months of planning. Others happen because of a missed turn, a conversation with a stranger, or deciding to take one more walk before heading back to the hotel. Those unexpected moments are often the ones I remember the most.
That's why I started Southern Wander Co.
I wanted a place where I could share not just where I went, but what those places taught me.
I Don't Travel to Collect Countries
I travel to collect moments.
It's watching the sunrise from an airplane window.
It's standing on a quiet street before a city wakes up.
It's finding the perfect local coffee shop.
It's hearing live music drift through the streets of New Orleans or watching the Bellagio fountains dance against the Las Vegas skyline.
Sometimes it's something as simple as writing "I ❤️ NY" in fresh snow.
Those moments may seem small, but they're the memories I carry home.
I Let Every Destination Surprise Me
One thing I've learned is that the best trips rarely go exactly as planned.
Some of my favorite experiences happened because I slowed down and said yes to something unexpected.
Miami surprised me.
Las Vegas reminded me that a weekend doesn't need a detailed itinerary to become unforgettable.
New York became the city that made me fall in love with solo travel.
Every destination has changed me in some way.
And every destination has given me another story to tell.
I Photograph More Than Landmarks
When I take pictures, I'm not just trying to capture famous places.
I'm looking for the little details.
A historic street sign.
Fresh snow resting on waterfront rocks.
The glow of a neon hotel after dark.
A quiet sunrise before the crowds arrive.
Those photographs help me remember how a destination felt, not just how it looked.
That's why you'll find a section called Travel Frame by Frame here on Southern Wander Co.—a collection of moments that deserve a second look.
Every Trip Teaches Me Something
Travel has made me more confident.
It's taught me how to navigate unfamiliar cities, trust myself, embrace spontaneity, and appreciate cultures that are different from my own.
It has also shown me that meaningful adventures don't always require expensive vacations or weeks away from home.
Sometimes all you need is a free weekend, a carry-on bag, and a willingness to explore.
Why I Share These Stories
Southern Wander Co. isn't just a place to find destination guides or travel tips.
It's where I share the experiences behind the places.
The lessons I didn't expect to learn.
The moments that made me laugh.
The places I'll never forget.
If one of my stories inspires you to book that weekend getaway, take your first solo trip, or simply see a destination a little differently, then I've accomplished exactly what I hoped to do.
Because to me...
Travel isn't about collecting passport stamps. It's about collecting stories worth telling.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
I can't wait to share the next story with you.
